Colombia growing stronger in the Meetings & Conference Tourism

An economic impact study by ProColombia and the Mexican firm STA Consultores revealed that the meetings industry brought US $2.4 Billion to Colombian economy, equaling 22.8% of tourism’s total spillover in Colombia. In addition, this figure represented a 0.43% share of Colombia’s gross domestic product. 

Total profit generated by this industry is distributed across many layers of the population, since over 60% of spending was made in non-tourism related sectors, such as exhibit production, translation, decoration, or facility rentals.

The equivalent of 23% of tourism's economic contribution in Colombia comes from the Meetings Industry. Business events generated 218,135 jobs and attracted 468,994 international attendees to Colombia during 2018.

500 foreign investors seek new business in Colombia

Considered Colombia’s leading summit in foreign direct investment and strategic partnerships, the Colombia Investment Summit will take place on October 29th and 30th in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt hotel, welcoming more than 500 foreign investors interested in new projects, incentives, and expansion opportunities in the Colombian market.

Five hundred foreign investors will be at the 2019 Colombia Investment Summit—an event led by ProColombia and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism—to create investment opportunities in the orange economy, clinical studies, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and tourism sectors.

Colombia, the South American powerhouse for bicycle tourism

With the 2019 Tour de France, the eyes of the world are on Colombia. Egan Bernal, a 22-year-old born in Zipaquirá, is the first Latin American to win this cycling competition. Thanks to his work and that of other “escarabajos,” or “beetles”—a nickname for Colombian cyclists—like Nairo Quintana, Rigoberto Urán, and Sergio Luis Henao, Colombia stands strong as a cradle of exceptional athletes and a cycling tourism destination.

Colombian Egan Bernal’s triumphant win at the Tour de France is also an achievement for a country that wants to promote cycling culture along its 38 possible cycling training routes.

Bicentennial Macro Matchmaking Forum generated 34.5 million dollars

In total, 937 buyers from 52 countries participated in the Bicentennial Macro Matchmaking Forum and had the opportunity to learn about Colombian talent, represented by 2,097 business owners from 25 departments.
"This event highlighted buyers’ and exporters’ confidence in Colombia in general, and specifically in ProColombia as an ally for internationalization," Santoro said, since 58% of buyers (543), as well as 796 Colombian business owners, were first-time participants.

Over three days, ProColombia successfully connected buyers from more than 50 countries with Colombia’s regional business owners committed to internationalizing their products and services. With more than 10,000 business meetings, ProColombia clinched useful business contacts that could exceed USD 400 million, 28% more than in 2018. This value includes USD 34.5 million worth of business carried out during the Bicentennial Macro Matchmaking Forum. "We know that if we continue working as a team with business owners, in a collaborative way—following up on and fulfilling all the agreed-upon commitments—we will be able to turn these enormous possibilities into sales abroad," said Flavia Santoro, ProColombia’s president.

Colombia seeks more investments in Asia

A Colombian mission consisting of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, ProColombia, and regional investment promotion agencies Invest Pacific and ProBarranquilla will visit Japan and China between March 21 and 30 to attend the annual Inter-American Development Bank meeting in Chengdu, China. During the visit, they will present Colombia's competitive advantages as a tourism, business, and investment destination, as well as its status as an export platform to regional third markets.  

Colombia is the third largest recipient of investment in Latin America and has one of the best economic prospects in 2019, according to the IMF.

"Health Room Colombia", 1st. matchmaking forum specialized in hospital supplies

More than 20 Central American and Caribbean companies will participate in this matchmaking forum, including private clinics, hospitals, and specialized hospital supply chain distributors from countries such as the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Aruba, Curacao, and Trinidad and Tobago, among others. Health Room Colombia will include a trade show with more than 40 Colombian export companies such as Mubi, Quirúrgicos Alfa, Rymco Medical, and Tecnoquímicas.

Colombia exhibits leisure travel options during ITB 2019

Berlin, February 2019. In the 2019 edition of ITB, 24 Colombian business representatives will promote Colombia's wide range of leisure travel options. They will offer various tourism products with the support of ProColombia, an international tourism promotion agency.

Colombia's stand will cover about 300 square meters, in which the following cities and regions will be promoted: Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Meta, Chocó, the Coffee Belt, and the Amazon.

56% of buyers are at ProColombia Travel Mart for the first time

Bogotá, February 2019. With an enormous turnout of national business representatives covering almost the entirety of the tourism sector equipped for the international market, the latest edition of ProColombia Travel Mart (PTM) will be held from February 27 to March 1 with the aim of capturing the high-spending foreign tourism market. The matchmaking forum will take place during the ANATO Tourism Fair in Bogotá.

Over 500 national and international business representatives will attend more than 5000 meetings at the matchmaking forum to be held in Bogotá during the ANATO Tourism Fair.

The 2021 ICCA Congress will be held in Cartagena, Colombia
